Rothy’s vs. Tieks

This week while I was on Pinterest I came across a blog post that was comparing Rothy’s and Teiks shoes. The end results of the post was “both shoes are great!” and I have some opinions about both shoes that are different than that so I wanted to share them. I have purchase both Rothy’s and Tieks. I was looking for a simple navy flat so that is what I will be comparing thought this post.

Comfort
Comfort is the most important category to me so that is why I have it first. I bought Tieks first (see Price category below) because of all the advertisements I was seeing literally everywhere. They said how comfortable they were and how the shoe molded to your foot. So I got a pair for my engagement photo shoot. I put them on walked around my house and said “Nope not happening!”. They were so uncomfortable. One thing Tieks boast on their website is that the shoes/material molds to your foot. But for almost $200 I wasn’t going to walk around waiting to break in the shoes only to find that it in fact was still uncomfortable and not be able to return them. The reason I found them to be so uncomfortable is because of my feet. I have bunions (cute right?). They aren’t massive but they make wearing certain shoes really uncomfortable. The material and fit on the Tieks were not made for my feet. I found the heel of the shoes dug into my heel (and was going to make some really nice blisters) and the shoe overall was too narrow and wasn’t going to stretch to fit my lovely bunions. So back they went.
It wasn’t until many month later that I purchased my Rothy’s. I had seen a lot of advertisements for Rothy’s too. But the price made me a bit nervous after the Tieks purchase. It wasn’t until Maddie bought a pair that I seriously considered getting them. She said they were so comfortable and that I would love them. I finally bought a pair and I fell in love the second I put them on my feet. They are pretty much made of a knit material with no elastic around the heel area and the shoe fit perfect the second I put it on. There weren’t any weird pressure points or squeezing of my bunions. Just a great comfortable shoe! I wear them any chance I get.

Price
Rothy’s: $125 for Flats. Purchased in July 2018
Tieks:$174 for Flats. Purchased October 2017

Style
Both brands had the simple flat I was looking for. As you can see above I bought Tieks first. I wanted to use them for my engagement photo shoot. Which I ended up not using them. But both styles would be very versatile. But Rothy’s a much cuter in my opinion.

Material
Rothy’s: Made from recycled plastic which I love! And the flats are actually more of a knit material that is stretchy. Which is why I think they are so comfortable. They are also washable. Huge plus.
Tieks: Variety of materials used. On their website they say that the materials mold to your foot. But not my foot.

Final Impressions
In case you couldn’t tell from the comfort category Rothy’s win. (I didn’t even keep the Tieks so…). With how comfortable they are how could they not!? For me there is not other option and not really a perk for Tieks at all. Rothy’s also has so many more styles since I purchased my pair. I love the sneaker and the chelsea and hope to get those in the future. I also love Rothy’s practices and their mission. This is a company I feel good making a purchase from.
