First Time Gardener – 3 Month Check In

Emily here! Back with another check in on my garden. My last check in was almost 2 months ago and the garden is looking great. We had a heatwave last week and it really seemed to make everything in the garden pop!

More Plants Added. Since my last check in I have added more plants to the garden. I bought two varieties of pumpkins and planted them directly in the ground. I planted in 6 areas in our yard and 3 of the spots have some action! Really hoping these ones make it. I also threw down some carnation seeds in the ground as well as chamomile. I’m just starting to see those come out of the ground too.

Sage and Lavender Bites the Dust. I’ve so far only had two plants not make it. After the last frost the sage just never seemed to recover. I had one little plant left that I thought might make it and then Pal made a mud pie with it. Also I got a lavender plant for Mother’s Day from my mom and Pal was very interested in that and it just never got going.

Romaine Lettuce is King! So far the best crop is my romaine lettuce. It was producing SO MUCH. But as it grew it started to get really over crowed and the quality of the lettuce wasn’t good. Just small limp little leaves. I finally pulled most of it and left the 3 healthies plants and they are so much happier with more room and the taste is so good. My husband said it best “It tastes so green!”.

Flowers. The Cosmo flowers are now starting to bloom and it brings me so much joy! My initial intention was to plant them and make a mini cut flower garden but I can’t bring myself to cut them. They look so happy out there. Also the Dahlias are currently at a growth standstill. I’m holding out hope that they will bloom in August. Fingers crossed.
